International Human Rights Day

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Human Rights Day, 10th December. It enshrines 30 rights and freedoms that everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, or other status. It reflects an agreement that equality, freedom and justice are values that derive a thriving community when everyone experiences equal access to opportunities.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Human Rights Day is a reminder of the achievements we have made and also of the sacrifices and struggles we still face in attaining these rights.
Today we have come together to celebrate Human Rights Day with poems, songs and reflections on equality, freedom and justice for all. We stand together to encourage everyone to protect and maintain human rights in Drogheda. We can make a difference. I would like to thank Highlanes Gallery for offering us the venue and to all the poets and writers who wanted to be a part of this event.
